UNIFIL statement on the death of LAF personnel

UNIFIL expresses its heartfelt condolences to the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) and the families of the personnel who lost their lives in yesterday’s explosion in Naqoura, and wishes a speedy recovery to the injured. According to the LAF, the incident occurred while its personnel were inspecting a fallen IDF drone.

This tragic loss highlights the risks faced by the LAF as they take on greater responsibilities in securing southern Lebanon.

As reaffirmed by the Security Council in resolution 2790, the parties are to ensure full respect for the Blue Line and a full cessation of hostilities.

LAF’s full deployment across the south is central to resolution 1701 with UNIFIL coordinating closely with Lebanese authorities in support.”

بيان لليونيفيل حول مقتل أفراد من الجيش اللبناني

تتقدم اليونيفيل بأحرّ التعازي لقوات الجيش اللبناني ولعائلات الأفراد الذين سقطوا في الانفجار الذي وقع في الناقورة بالأمس، وتتمنى الشفاء العاجل للمصابين. ووفقاً لقوات الجيش اللبناني، وقع الحادث أثناء قيام عناصرها بفحص مسيّرة تابعة للجيش الإسرائيلي سقطت في المكان.

وتسلط هذه الخسارة المأساوية الضوء على المخاطر التي تواجهها القوات المسلحة اللبنانية في ظلّ تحملها مسؤوليات أكبر في تأمين جنوب لبنان.

وكما أكّد مجلس الأمن في القرار 2790، على الأطراف ضمان الاحترام الكامل للخط الأزرق ووقف الأعمال العدائية بشكلٍ كامل.

ويُعدّ الانتشار الكامل للجيش اللبناني في جميع أنحاء الجنوب محورياً للقرار 1701، حيث تُنسق اليونيفيل بشكلٍ وثيق مع السلطات اللبنانية لدعمها.
