رفض القضاء البريطاني دفوعاً شكلية تقدّم بها البنك اللبناني الفرنسي للتملّص من دعوى رفعها بحقّه المودع المقيم في لندن جورج بيطار. وفيما تذرّع المصرف بطبيعته اللبنانيّة لعدم المثول أمام القضاء البريطاني، رأت المحكمة البريطانية في ختام الشهر الفائت أنّ لها صلاحيّة الفصل في النزاع بين المصرف وعميله، وذلك لكون المصرف يمتلك فروعاً في دول مختلفة حول أنحاء العالم، ويتعامل بسندات رهن عقاري في فرنسا وبريطانيا، بالإضافة إلى تطويره جزء كبير من أعماله داخل المملكة المتحدة.
تمهّد هذه الخطوة لمحاكمة البنك اللبناني الفرنسي أمام القضاء البريطاني بملف سطو المصرف على مبلغ يقارب الأربعة ملايين دولار للمُغترب جورج بيطار، كما تفتح الباب أمام كافة المغتربين لخوض المعركة القضائية مع مصارفهم التي سرقت أموالهم.

The British judiciary refused procedural motions submitted by Banque Libano-Française in an attempt to get rid of a lawsuit filed by George Bitar, a Lebanese expatriate residing in London. BLF claimed that British courts cannot rule on a dispute with one of its clients, since it is a Lebanese bank, but the court considered, at the end of last month, that it does have jurisdiction over the matter, since the bank owns branches in different countries around the world, deals with mortgage bonds in France and the U.K., and has developed a large part of its business within the U.K.
This step means that Banque Libano-Française could be tried in British courts, for seizing nearly $4 million belonging to George Bitar, and opens the door to Lebanese expats who can sue their banks for stealing their money.
